Crinum Florida unknown hybrid seems to have originated from somewhere in central or southern Florida and is often distributed as C. fimbriatulum which it is not. Though it has many characteristics of hybrids of C. bulbispermum × C. scabrum and is similar in some ways to the darker forms 'Carroll Abbott' and 'Schreck', it also has characteristics that suggest influence from C. zeylanicum in the color, shape, and fragrance of the flowers, and the extent of the stripes on the tepals. This plant also slightly different from other Crinum × herbertii crosses having a shinier luster and more upright foliage. How this combination of species were employed to achieve this hybrid is uncertain. How exactly the scientific named C. fimbriatulum became associated with this form is also uncertain, but there does not appear to be any actual relationship between this African species and this hybrid form. Crinum × herbertii is the name used for hybrids of C. bulbispermum × C. scabrum. Because this hybrid has been made many times there is huge variability in plant size, flower size and shape, and degree and color of the stripes. Because of the C. scabrum parent the stripes on these hybrids are usually darkest at the center and fade toward the tips. The two pictured here are not named, but show some of the variation that can be expected within this group of hybrids. Also see 'Carroll Abbott', 'P.F. There are a large number clones with and without names of this hybrid cross. There is quite a lot of variation to be found amongst them, however there are so many different forms that are similar and only differ by slight variations. Here are a few different found/heirlooms.

Crinum 'Maurine Spinks' is a C. × baconi (C. americanum × C. zeylanicum) hybrid. Because of the C. zeylanicum parent the stripes on this hybrid are usually darkest at the tips and fade towards the center. Photos taken June 2006 by Alani Davis.
Crinum '9 Stripes' is a hybrid of C. album × C. 'International' made by Pat Malcolm. Three petals have two stripes each, and the three sepals have a single stripe totaling nine stripes. The flowers are especially beautiful, but delicate & not long lasting. Photos taken by Alani Davis.
Crinum 'Pat's Herbertia' is a seed fertile backcross of C. bulbispermum × C. × herbertii (C. bulbispermum × C. scabrum) hybridized by Pat Malcolm.
