Marantaceae

Marantaceae or arrowroot family, is a large family with about 30 genera and some 400 species. It is distributed in subtropical and tropical regions world-wide. Plants are rhizomatous, with rhizomes often containing starch. Plants can either grow in the ground or as epiphytes. A species of the genus Maranta is grown in tropical areas for their starchy rhizomes. Calathea and Stromanthe are grown as ornamentals, often times with very nicely variegated leaves.

We have the genera Maranta and Calathea represented on the wiki
